Edward Fuller, his wife and his son Samuel came to America on the Mayflower. They had lived in Leyden, Holland for a short period of time, but originally came from Redenhall, Norfolk, England. Edward Fuller's father was a butcher by trade and his brother Samuel was a doctor and deacon. Edward's occupation remains unknown. He and his wife both died the first winter and are buried in unmarked graves on Coles Hill. His name appears in the following "Compact" which was drawn up in the cabin of the Mayflower just previous to the landing at Cape Cod in Novermber, 1620. Ellen Baker's notes: Edward and his wife both died during the first winter, after arriving from the Mayflower, in Plymouth, Plymouth Co., MA. Edward and his unkknown wife were among the English Separatist living in Leiden, Holland. He then joined the pilgrims at Southhampton, England, and then embarked first in the "Speedwell" and when the ship proved unseathworthy, transferred to the Mayflower and with his wife and young son, Samuel, continued the voyage to the New World. He was the twenty-first signer of the "Compac." He and his wife both died soon after their arrival and are buried in unmarked graves on Coles Hill at Plymouth, Plymouth Co., MA. Edward was one of the Puritans who left England because of religious persecution. In the time of Queen Elizabeth I, 1558 to 1603, the policy ws to enforce absolute uniformity in religious belief. The Puritans were targeted because of their persistent attempts to purify the church and they had stopped with the ceremonies required by the dominant religion. King James I, who succeeded Queen Elizabeth I, also was intolerant of other religions. _______________________ William Bradford's Mayflower Passenger List (wrote for History, of Plymouth Plantation, written between 1630-1654 "Edward fuller, and his wife; and Samuell their sonne." "Edward ffuller, and his wife dyed soon after they came ashore; but their sone Samuell is living, & maried, and hath .4. children. or more."
