January 2007, Eveline Clarke of North Wales wrote: "your people were living in Flyford Flavell. Bill's 2x Great Grandfather, Henry Goware, lived in Flyford Flavel; he was a boot and shoemaker and lived next to the coaching inn. Strangely enough the old coaching inn is called The Boot Inn. Henry Gowar made all the boots and shoes for the people of the village, mostly boots even for the women, it was only the gentry which wore shoes. Farm workers because of their hard life would get through at least 2 pairs of boots a year and they would have probably been repaired with new soles at least four times before being discarded. It therefore stands to reason that he would probably have made them for your ancestors as well." <aclarke22@toucansurf.com>. Evelyn used to live in Worcestershire until 5 years ago [2007]. |
