Nemours was acquired by Louis IX and made into a duchy by Charles VI (1404), then traded with Charles III "the Noble", King of Navarre for the city of Cherbourg; recovered by the Crown in 1425, it was given up by Louis XI to Jacques d'Armagnac, then confiscated again. Later it became part of the House of Savoy, then was recovered by Louis XIV who gave it to Philippe of Orléans, his brother, whose family kept it until the Revolution. [edit] Research Tips
