In the 1880 census, there is a "nearby" family (home 311, family 316) with spouses S. C. and Elizabeth Stewart, both of whom were born in Ohio. The eldest child in this family still in the home is 24 years old, the youngest 12 - though all of the children were born in Illinois. Mary Ellen Stewart might have been the eldest child of the couple and "recently" left home, having married. Also an interesting note about this nearby family -- the father of all the children was born in Indiana, unlike S. C. Stewart, who was born in Ohio; this could be indicative of these being Elizabeth's children by a prior marriage.

Also in the 1880 census, there is a "nearby" Ferguson family (home 328, family 333), with spouses R. I. and Mary Ferguson. R. I. was born in Indiana, suggesting that there is not a close relationship between R. I. and David.
