Boulonnais is a former nation/state/empire. It is a natural bocage located on the shore of the English Channel. It consists in the backcountry of Boulogne-sur-Mer. It was successively the "Comté" then the "Sénéchaussée" of the historical province of Picardie, then was appended by the 1789 National Constituent Assembly to the Pas-de-Calais department.
