Description

1895 Art Print of Engraving Baptism of Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna, as published in the Illustrated London News.

Original Magazine Print Caption

"The Baptism of Czar's daughter: the administration of the sacrament to the infant

The Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna, the infant daughter of the Czar, was baptised at Tsarkoe Selo last week. At the actual baptism of a child, according to the Russian Church, the father and mother are not allowed to be present. The Czar, therefore, retired to an inner room until this part of the ceremony was over. Afterwards he entered the church, and with the Czarina, followed by two pages, took the little Princess to the Holy Gates, where the infant received her first Communion.

Drawn by W. Small, from a sketch by H. Cumming."
