Katinka was born in Avnslev, Denmark in 1884 to Johanne Marie Jensen and an unknown father. At the age of 24 she sailed to the United States on the Lusitania, arriving in New York on September 11, 1908. After arriving, she traveled to Denver, which only a few months earlier had hosted the Democratic National Convention where William Jennings Bryan was nominated for his third defeat in the presidential race. It's unclear how long she lingered in Denver but by July 6, 1911, she was in San Francisco marrying Niels Henning Hansen. She outlived Niels by over a decade, dieing just weeks short of her 91st birthday in Los Angeles.

However, I now have a record of her being in an orphanage in Nyborg where it says that she came from Avnslev Sogn, Svendborg, Denmark. There is an entry for an unnamed child of an unwed mother on the exact date of Katinka's birth in the parish records of Avnslev, Svendborg, Denmark.
