    E. Lucille "Penny" Core, 93, of Battle Creek, died Sunday, September 23, 2001, at Laurels of Bedford.
    She was born September 21, 1908 in Albion to Merl and Josephine (Neufer) Griffith.
    Penny spent her youth in Albion and spent several years in Kalamazoo during the 1930's. She has been a resident of Battle Creek since the 1950's. She was a homemaker who enjoyed reading, knitting and crocheting.
    Penny was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church.
    On October 25, 1948, she married Lester L. Core. He preceded her in death April 2, 2000.
    Surviving is her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and DeLouise Van Eck of Portage, eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several nieces.
    She was preceded in death by a son, Gary C. Van Eck, three sisters and two brothers.
    Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Farley-Ecles & Dowdle Funeral Home.
    Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wedesnday at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
    Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Philip Catholic Church.
