Burlingame in Essex County, New York

Joseph Burlingame

I am hunting for Joseph Burlingame, born about 1818, who wrote on his Civil War enlistment papers that he was born in Moriah, Essex County, New York. Joseph had settled in Grant Co, Wisconsin by 1850, and no Burlingame family appears nearby. In searching for him, I have attempted to flesh out the Burlingame families living in Essex County and the surrounding area at that time. The appear to all be related to each other, and at least one branch (James son of Daniel) settled just down the river from Grant County, in Carroll County, IL. b. Cranston, RI. d. 4 Sep 1820 in Ira, VT (near Moriah). Married Sarah. Had six children between 1774 and 1782 Cumberland, RI town censuses.

3 & 4 & maybe 5 - Cumberland, RI census indicates Daniel and Sarah had 4 sons in 1784.

John Burlingame

Daniel's brother, settled in Ira, Rutland Co, VT. m. Esther Harmon, had all children before 1800.

1. Rufus b. 1786, m. Eunice, moved to Ohio before 1836. d. 4 Nov 1855 in Ohio.

Children of Rufus, born in Ira: William (?), Henry (b. 1809), Hiram (b. 16 May 1818), Edwin (8 Aug 1823), and possibly at least one other son.
