In the 1850 census, Anson's real estate value was $900, and he worked as a sawyer[4].

Eliminations

  • Anson is not the son of William Bassett's son Lewis Bassett of Rhode Island.[6]
  • He is not the descendant of Zachariah Bassett[7], who had no children and was of Rhode Island.
  • He is not the son of Joseph Bassett, who was married in 1808 and lived in Massachusetts.[8]
  • Samuel Basset of Connecticut, who served in the Revolutionary War and had no children.
  • Abel Basset, who served in Connecticut and moved to Jefferson Co, New York; he was not listed as a child.[9]
  •  ? Abraham Bassett, who served and died in Connecticut. Grace Wheeler is listed as only surviving child in 1852, although the Southbury Connecticut 1850 census record shows her living next to an Obadiah Bassett (age 49) and with a Lucinda Bassett (age 60).[10]
  •  ? David Bassett, who served in Connecticut, because he died in 1803, as long as his wife Sarah wasn't pregnant when he died.[11]
  •  ? Edward Bassett, who served and lived in Connecticut. He had five children living with him in 1818; Anson was not listed, as long as he hadn't moved out at or before the age of 14.[12]
  • Joshua Bassett, who served in Connecticut and lived in Cortland NY.[13]
  • Nathan Bassett, served in CT and lived in MA. Only children alive in 1834 were Orry of MA and Nathan of OH.[14]
  • Benjamin Bassett of Massachusetts, who had 3 children, all of whom were dead by 1844 (____ Bassett, Joseph Bassett and Hannah Bassett) according to his wife, who was not the mother of the children.[15]
  • Jonathan Bassett of Massachusetts who had no children in 1818 and no family.[16]
