[edit] About Bartolo "Bart" LucenteBartolo "Bart" Lucente was born 24 August 1933 in McKees Rocks, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, son of John Lucente (1905-1976) and his wife Ida Carolina Vernarelli (1911-1980), both of Italian ancestry who came to America just after the turn of the century. Bart worked in his father's grocery store when he was young and continued to help his father after the family moved to California when his father operated the Grand State Market in Huntington Park, California. Bart graduated from Huntington Park High School, and shortly thereafter served a two-year stint in the United States Army, as an entertainment director. Bart was uniquely qualified for this role as he was an accomplished pianist and organist. After his military service, Bart entered Woodbury University and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration, and went on to Goddard College to receive his Master's Degree in Psychology. Bart's professional sales career in the food industry started in 1956 as a Regional Manager for Marcal Paper Products, moving a year later to Kimberly Clark Paper Company as a Territory Manager, and later became Regional Manager for the Borden Chemical Company in 1964. In 1971, he moved to Presto Food Products, and six years later in 1978, he began his deli career as Regional Manager for thin-sliced meat manufacturer Leo's Quality Foods, founded by deli industry Leo Cohen. In 1980, Bart was promoted to the executive position of Vice President of Marketing and Sales, and was responsible for the firm's four Regional Managers and a broker sales network. During his career at Presto Foods and Leo's Quality Foods, Bart was active in the Dairy/Deli/Bakery Council of Southern California (DDBC), or "Deli Council", a local food-industry trade association, and served as coordinator of the 13-week Deli course offered at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), Extension Center in downtown Los Angeles. In recognition of his support of the Council, Bart was awarded the Deli Council's "Big Cheese" Award in August 1981.Bart also donated his time as a family counselor for the Trinity Christian Center in Lakewood, California. He passed away on 12 April 2011 after a long and distinguised career in the food industry. He was married to his wife Nancy and they had four children together: Erin, Bran, Steve and Hank.
