Elizabeth1 Scudder, bp. (Strood) .1 July 1625. … She came to New England probably with her mother and half-siblings Samuel and Joanna Chamberlain. On 10 9m [Nov.] 1644, the Boston Church granted to “our sister Elizabeth Skuddar” a letter of recommendation to the Church at Barnstable. “John Lathrop the sonne of our sister some time or formerly called Elizabeth Skuddar” was bp. 7 10m [Dec.] 1645. The baptismal record continues, “now the wife of one John Skuddar,” an error for “Lothrop” that is mentioned by Savage and noted in the published version.

Jane Fiske discovered from Strood, Kent parish registers, the will of Reverend Henry Scudder, a marriage record of John Scudder and Elizabeth Stoughton, and other sources, some already published in TAG or in publications of the Scudder Family Association, that Elizabeth Scudder, wife of Samuel Lathrop, was the daughter of the above John Scudder and Elizabeth Stoughton, a sister of Thomas and Israel Stoughton of Dorchester, Mass.
