Widow Elizabeth Howland's Will
"[5:391] 'Elisabeth Howland of middleboro Relict of Isaac Howland Senr late of Sd middleboro deceasd' made her will 13 October, 1725.
Bequests were as follows.
To 'my Son Nathan Howland: The feather Bed I Lodge on with all ye furniture belonging to it: also I give Him my two Cows' also 'Halfe my Pewter & Halfe my Brasse: because I think He Hath most need of it.'
To "my Son Seth Howland the Bed & furniture that He Commonly Lodges on.'
'all ye Rest of my moveables & Debts due to me Shall be Equally divided between my Children. viz. Nathan. Seth. Priscilla Bennett. Jael Southworth. & Hannah Tinkham.'
'I doe hereby Constitute. … my Son Nathan Howland my Sole Executor'
The will was signed by a mark. The witnesses were Joshua Morss, Benjamin Foster and Thomas Palmer.
[From original summons] On 15 December, 1727, 'Isaac Winslow Judge of Probate' issued a summons 'To mr Thomas Palmer, mr Joshua Morss and mr Benjamin Foster all of Middleborough' the 'witnesess to the last Will of mrs Elizabeth Howland late of Middleborough aforesd deceased' to testify 'before my selfe at the house of mr Thomas Wetherell in Plimoth on friday the Twenty second of this Instant December'
[5:392] Thomas Palmer made oath to the will on 22 December, 1727, and Benjamin Foster on 8 March, 1727/8, before Isaac Winslow, Judge of Probate. The will was allowed, at Marshfield, on 28 March, 1728, and letter of administration issued to Nathan Howland, the executor."[7]
