Advisory on Wives of George Adam Bush

There is much conflicting information regarding the wives of George Adam Bush. He appears to have been married three times: first, abt. 1742 (in Pennsylvania) to Catherine Stump, daughter of Christopher Stump, (George Adam was named in Christopher Stump's will as the husband of "my deceased daughter Catherine", written in 1769). Catherine appears to have died in abt. 1744 shortly after the birth of their only child, Catherine, b. abt. 1743. George Adam Bush's second wife was Anna 'Dorothea' Katerman, whom he married on 17 January 1749/50 in Christ Lutheran Church, Berks County, Pennsylvania, daughter of Weyrich and Elizabeth (Unknown) Katerman. Anna Dorothea must have died before abt. 1763 (perhaps shortly after their migration to the South Branch of the Potomac area of Augusta County, Virginia), as George Bush and his wife "Susannah" were named in a 1763 deed to Sebastian Hover (listed below). George's third wife "Susannah" had apparently died prior to the writing of George Bush's will, which was written on 11 October 1811 and proven before September 1820. There do not appear to be any known children from George Adam Bush's third marriage with wife Susannah. More research may be necessary.

Will of George Adam Bush

The Last Will and Testament of Adam Bush.

In the name of God amen. I Adam Bush of Harrison County and commonwealth of Virginia being in sound mind and memory but being weak and debilitated from old age, do make this my last will and testament, in manner following that is to say, to wit, -

First I give and bequeath all my personal property to Margaret Bush (widow and relict of my son Adam Bush) with whom I live) to be by her enjoyed, during her life, and if any part thereof shall remain at her decease, then my will is that such remainder shall go to and be the rightful property of her son Palser to be by him his heirs and assigns forever enjoyed.

Whereas I have heretofore given to my son John Bush now deceased Two Hundred acres of land on Buckhannon River which was all the Estate were by me given to him and as his portion as one of my children, and whereas I made a verbal contract with my said son John for one hundred acres of land on Freeman’s Creek a branch of the West fork River which I was to convey to him in a certain time provided he paid to me twenty five pounds, which the said John never did pay nor any part thereof and since that contract was forfeited, I, as I had a right to do conveyed said land to Adam Hickman, and by said Hickman since conveyed to John Smith who now is in possession thereof rightfully. I have also given all the rest of my children their portion as children. -

I nominate and appoint my said Daughter in Law Margaret Bush executrix of this my last Will and Testament, and to exercise the functions of such Executrixship without entering into bond or giving security. Hereby revoking all other or former wills or bequeaths heretofore made or executed by me.

In testimony whereof I the said George Adam Bush do hereunto set my hand and affix my seal on this fifteenth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eleven.

Bush, Jonathan Coburn, the widow, Leonard Reed, Joseph Skidmore, Austin Scoolcraft, Mr. Churchill, fee in Leonard Reed's suit; Dennis Sullivan's bond (insolvent); Mathias Yeoman (Yeokum?).

• 1760 - We, this congregation on the Fork in Augusta County, acknowledge that we have an agreement made with the schoolmaster, to keep school. We promise to pay him for six months school-keeping for one child twelve shillings and one bushel of wheat, and the above bargain we promise to do and stand to which we have with our hands, or marks, under written as many children as we will send to the school in ye year 1760. Information on George Bush

George (Jurig) Adam BUSCH/BUSH came from Daisbach, Germany 23 Jul 1721 with his birth record at Neckargemund and was baptised at Zuzanhausen, Germany.

Anna "Dorothea" KATERMAN was b. 13 Feb 1729, d/o Weyrich and Elisabetha KATERMAN who came to PA on 6 May 1738

George Adam BUSH emigrated with his parents on Ship Hope abt 1733. He was listed as a 13 year old on the ship "Hope" list in 1733 with his parents, Hans Michael (36) and Evan (36?) BUSCH with his siblings: Johann Ludwig (11); Maria Margaretha (9); and Johannes (7). Three more children named as George Michael (5); Anna Barbara (3) and Johann Adam b Feb 1733 were evidently left behind until the family became settled.

George Adam BUSCH married Anna "Dorothea" KATTERMAN 17 Jan 1750 at the Christ "Little Tulpehocken" Lutheran KB Church in Berks Co., PA. Anna "Dorothea" KATERMAN was b. 13 Feb 1729, d/o Weyrich and Elisabetha KATERMAN who came to PA on 6 May 1738.
