"In George's lifetime the already extensive possessions of the family provided considerable additions."[3] He inherited the estate of Alexander Hay, his grandfather, and also that of William Hay, his uncle. Thirteen children "came to mature age", including John, his successor.[3]

  5. 5.0 5.1 Caskieben is an estate in the parish of Keithhall and Kinkell. It was sold by the Johnston family in 1662 to Sir John Keith, third son of the sixth Earl Marischal, who in 1677 was created Earl of Kintore and Baron Keith of Inverurie and Keithhall. The estate, now known as Keith Hall, is still in the hands of the Keith family.
