George Robinson was baptised on 11th February 1872 at Sidlesham in Sussex, son of Fanny Robinson, formerly Edwards, and her husband James Robinson, an agricultural labourer. George was the youngest of the couple's six children, but three of his older siblings had died young, leaving him two surviving older brothers: Edward who was much older than George, being nineteen when George was born, and Henry, who was less than two when George was born. When George was born both his maternal grandparents were still alive and living locally, although his maternal grandfather was buried the month after George's baptism.
George appears in the 1881 census living with his parents and brother Henry at Mill in Sidlesham. They are listed under the surname Allen which George's father James sometimes used; Allen was James's stepfather's surname. By 1891 they were living at Church Lane in Sidlesham and George was working as an agricultural labourer.
By 1901 George had left home and moved to the nearby city of Chichester, where he was boarding at the Woodman Inn. George's maternal grandmother died in 1903.
In 1911 George was boarding at the New Inn at Stedham and working as a general labourer. He has yet to be traced after 1911.
