• Pages 100-02. 20-21 Feb. 1738 [1739]. William Beverley of Essex County, Gent., to George Robinson of Augusta County. Lease and release; for £14.15.2 current money. 892 acres part of Manner Beverley... on Shanadore River... line of the old patt[ent] of said Mannor. (signed) W. Beverley. Wit: Fran. Slaughter, G. Home. 22 Feb. 1738 [1739]. Acknowledged by William Beverley, Gent. [Orange County Virgina Deed Book 3, Dorman, pg. 8].

• Bryan McDonald, will dated 21 May 1757; Prov 18 Aug 1757, Augusta Co Va (Abstract) son Bryan, son-in-law John Armstrong, dau Prisia, wf Catherine, sons Richard, James, Edward, Joseph. Dau Rebecca Bean, Catherine Armstrong, and Mary Smith. Exec. wf Catherine and son-in-law John Armstrong. Teste: Joseph McDonald, George Robinson, Edward McDonald.

Information on Capt. George Robinson

Captain George Robinson was in the militia of Augusta County, Virginia in 1742 He lived near Tinkling Springs, Augusta County, and the village of Amsterdam grew up around his home from 1745 to 1763. He is credited with the exploration of the valley of Virginia from Orange County to the southwest area of the state. He appears in a great many Augusta Co, VA records. In 1740, he was Justice of the County Courthouse, and Captain of the local militia who protected settlers from Indians. In 1745, he was appointed Magistrate by the Governor of Virginia. In July 1746, he became the Commissioner of the New Court. He also assisted with the building and repairing of county roads. He was a member of the Loyal Land Company. The Loyal Land Company grant was in the spring of 1745 issued to several Augusta men and the surveying began March 1746. 100,000 acres of land, called "Woods River Grant" (later "New River") was granted to the members of the Company. Their task was to sell the land to settlers - they had four years to do so. In 1753 the grant was renewed. In November 1755, George headed a company of processioners.

1763--"Captain George Robinson died in the spring of 1763. For more than twenty years he had been a leader in the community. As an important individual in the great migration from the lower Pennsylvania Counties to the back part of Virginia, he had acquired large tracts of land in Beverly Manor, in the Forks of the James, on the Roanoke and on the branches of New River. As a brother-in-law to Bryan McDonald and William Graham who came with him to the Roanoke he looked out for their interests in land and had them and others of his family to settle near him".
