Gijsbertus Guillielmi is the father of Wilhelmus Gisberti, who is born in Bommel in 1698 as his illegitimate son. And, as discussed on the page for Wilhelmus Gisberti, there is strong evidence that this Wilhelmus Gisberti is the same person as Wilhelmus van Eeuwijk. If that hypothesis is true, then Gijsbertus Guillelmi is the oldest ancestor of the "van Eeuwijk"'s that can trace their ancestry to the Bommelerwaard.

The only other fact that we know is that Gijsbertus Guilielmi is a miller in Maren in 1698. I have not been able to find any further records regarding the birth of Gijsbertus Guilielmi. The only records that might possibly relate to Gijsbertus Guilelmi are that there are two witnesses, Aldert and Adelbertus van Eeuwijk, present at the birth of children of Wilhelmus Gisberti that live in Maren in the first part of the 18th century. As it is common to ask uncles and (half)brothers to serve as witnesses at the birth of one's children, Aldert and Adelbertus are either children or brothers of Gijsbertus Guilielmi. Further research is required, but it unfortunately appears that early Catholic records for Maren no longer exist.

  1. An argument against the hypothesis that Gijsbertus is the father of Wilhelmus is that Wilhelmus' mother would then be Guillielma (Wilhelma). But Wilhelmus names his eldest daughter Antonia, which is counter to the tradition of naming the first daughter after the father's mother.
