Biography of his grandson James (son of Richard) says that this James is the son of Richard ”an Englishman, who immigrated to America in early colonial times and settled in Maryland. Some of his children subsequently moved South and located in North Carolina. In that state were born James, the grandfather, and Richard, the father of our subject.”

James and brothers John and Joseph migrated to Ohio then Missouri. They were taxed in Franklin County, Missouri in 1819.

First wife was likely Sarah Snelson, daughter of Thomas and Deborah Snelson, who also migrated with the Morrow families from North Carolina. She died shortly after the birth of their daughter Sarah in 1821. James married again soon after to Alice McClure.

Copies of his bible with the births of his children all written in the same hand have been passed down, but do not show marriages or deaths.
