The John Dunn who is on the tax list in Harrison County, Kentucky in 1803 is no doubt the son of Jeremiah Dunn. He may also have moved with the family to Ohio, as reported by Anthony Christensen. The John Dunn who died in Lewis County, Missouri in 1857 is also most likely the son of Jeremiah Dunn, brother of James, Zephaniah, and Robert Dunn. Identifying this John Dunns in Indiana is more problematic.

In Hendricks County, Indiana, in 1825 there are two John Dunns, both of whom registered stock marks in 1825. This John Dunn may be the one who registered his stock mark on the 27th of May. The other John Dunn has been speculatively identified as a possible brother of Joseph Dunn, and is presumably the John Dunn who married Rosannah Matlock Lindsey in 1833, and most likely died about 1840 in Hendricks County. Aside from his early death, his signature and his occupation as store owner suggest that he had more education than James and Robert Dunn, and presumably their brother John.

A third John Dunn married a Sally Mires (or Myers) in 1830 and apparently moved to Clinton County, Indiana shortly thereafter, where he settled near others who were associated with the Dunn family. However, in the 1830 Census, he is too young to be this John Dunn, although he could have been an unidentified son.

John Dunn was born circa 1770, most likely in Maryland. He moved with his parents and family to southwestern Pennsylvania then to northern Kentucky. He grew up in Harrison County, Kentucky, wehre in the year 1803 he was named on the tax list next to his father Jeremiah. Some time later John moved north to Ohio with others of the Dunn and Harrison families, then west to Hendricks County, Indiana, then about the year 1829 to Clinton County, Indiana, where in December of that year he acquired eighty acres of land. A few years later John moved to Lewis County, Missouri. He died circa March 1857. His estate in Lewis County was administered by H. M. Woodyard.
