[edit] About Lou AgratiLouis Anthony "Lou" Agrati was born 29 April 1921 in Contra Costa County, California, son of Battista Agrati (1894-1976) and his wife Angelina Santa [nee Tironi] Agrati (1894-1996), both immgrants that came to America from Italy. His family owned a salame manufacturing business, Miland Salame Company, that they operated out of the basement of their northern California home that Lou worked for for several years. Lou enlisted and served in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific, where he became a cook assigned to the battleship California and later was re-assigned to a Marine division headed for invasion of the Palau Islands. Following this engagement, he was transfered to a Guam-based sub chaser. After the war, Lou returned to working in the family business in northern California.Later, after a short stint working as a bread salesman, Lou joined Capri Salame Company, one of the premier italian meat companies in the sliced meat category, product then sold in many supermarkets across the country. Capri Salame was later merged with Galileo Salami to become Galileo-Capri Salame, which was purchased by Gallo Salame, a division of Sara Lee, in 1989. Lou spent the next 28 years working with Capri Salame, and was a key contributor to the company's sales force. He became affectionately known to many in the food industry as "Mr. Salame". When Lou's son Don was selected as one of the original "Mouseketeers" by [among others] Walt Disney, Lou moved the family to Los Angeles in order to be close to his son, who was busy taping the weekly episodes for the "Mickey Mouse Club" and later for Don's role in the television show "My Three Sons". Lou took jobs selling used cars and driving a bakery truck during the initial years in Los Angeles. Lou's daughter Lanita Rose "Lani" was also a child actress, starring in the television comedy-drama "Eight is Enough". While working at Galileo-Capri Salamit, Lou became active in the Dairy/Deli/Bakery Council of Southern California (DDBC), or "Deli Council", a local food-industry trade association, was elected to its Board of Directors and was elected as its President in 1976. Lou joined the Deli Council in 1962, just two years after its founding, and was an instrumental member of the organization, serving on the Board of Directors for 10 years, and on the National Deli Seminar Committee. While a member, Agrati was honored in March 1974 with the "Big Cheese" Award, was the just the second person to receive the "Supplier of the Year" award in 1976 and was inducted into the DDBC "Hall of Fame" in 1993. Present at Lou's DDBC "Hall of Fame" award ceremony was his son Don, who said he was very proud of his father. Lou Agrati passed away on 13 April 2009 in Los Angeles County, California. He was pre-deceased by his second wife Helen Louise [nee Smith] Agrati, and survived by his children Don and Lanita Rose "Lani", who became famous child and adult actors in the television series "Mouseketeers" "My Three Sons" [Don] and "Eight is Enough" [Lani].
