He graduated from Beverley Hills High School with the Winter Class of 1936. As part of the "Color Day" festivities at Beverly Hills High, Loyd helped organize a vaudeville show of "Singing, dancing, and original comic sketches entitled Beverly Hotel, with an abundance ot talent in Singing, dancing, and original comic sketches, including his presentation of "Whitey" Knutson and his Orchestra to the march of the class to the auditorium stage with their senior sweaters". While at UCLA in 1940, Loyd served as President of the "Scabbard and Blade", the national organization for R.O.T.C. Cadet Officers. He also served his country during World War II as a Major in the Infantry of the United States Army. After school and his military career ended, Loyd spent most of his professional life working in the food industry as a food broker for over 40 years, representing many manufacturer's products that appeared in major supermarkets in Southern California. His food industry career began in 1940 when he joined food broker Mailliard & Schmiedell, which was founded in 1896, as a salesman. After serving his country in World War II, he returned to Mailliard & Schmeidell's sales force in 1946 and became a key account salesman when M & S began to represent the Armour Cheese line. By the mid-1960's, Loyd had become the General Manager of Mailliard & Schmiedell, and was named its President when it became part of Bromar Southern California in 1973. He was elevated to Chairman of the Board of Bromar, Southern California in 1975. Loyd was very active and supportive in a local trade association, the Dairy/Deli/Bakery Council of Southern California (then called "The Deli Council), and served as its second President in 1961. Loyd was present in the early days of the Deli Council when the first meetings were held at Syd Fischer's house until the group was large enough to be held in a small dining room at the Roger Young Auditorium in downtown Los Angeles. He provided much early leadership with the Deli Council in its formative years, an organization that still exists in 2014. Loyd was honored with the Deli Council's "Big Cheese" Award in November 1980 for his service to the Council.Loyd loved the beach, and golf.
