Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA

Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

  • Page 365.---16th November, 1776. John Kisling to Martin Finder, part of 225 acres patented to Jacob Runkle 30th August, 1773 (1763?), west of land where said Runkle lives. Teste: Peter Runkle, George Hoffman. Lewis Rinehart.

Martin Fenter [sic] provided an affidavit in support of Frederick Fenter's [Finder] Revolutionary Pension Application, as follows:

Martin Fenter personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace for said County and made oath that Frederick Fenter served his apprenticeship with him to the Gun Smith business, previous to the battle of Guilford, and that he was wounded in his left arm so as to prevent his following his trade or as he the said Martin believes doing that labor necessary for the support of himself & family.
