About David Datz
Nathaniel David Datz, known as "David", was born on 6 September 1916 in New York, the son of Morris Datz and Eva Sapperstein, both immigrants from Russia that were married in New York in 1903. David attended Richmond Hill High School, graduating in 1934, where he competed on both the tennis and swimming teams. Afterwards, he attended college and completed his Bachelor's Degree. He also served his country with pride and honor in the United States Armed Services,
David worked for 45 years in the food industry, including food manufacturing company Hebrew National [while living in New York], where worked his way up in sales and distribution and he served as Vice President of Sales. Hebrew National, maker of the famous kosher hot dogs were founded by Theodore Krainin, who emigrated from Russia in the 1880's. The difference between regular hot dogs and Hebrew National kosher hot dogs was explained in an article in the New York Times on May 5, 1964:
- David Datz, representing Hebrew National, explained the difference. “The non‐kosher hot dog is made up of meat, seasoning and cereal,” he said. “The kosher one is all beef, plus seasoning.”
While working for Hebrew National, David Datz re-located to Southern California and after the move was elected to the Board of Directors of the Dairy/Deli/Bakery Council of Southern California in 1976, a local food industry trade association, the Dairy/Deli/Bakery Council of Southern California. David was active in the organization and attended many of its functions for several years.
David passed away on 12 March 2012 in Palm Desert, Riverside County, California. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Reeve and was is survived by Lynne Schneider (me), Jeanne Datz-Rice, and Suzanne Datz in addition to a grandson, two granddaughters and two great granddaughters. He will be remembered as a hard-worker and a gentleman by his friends and those who knew and worked with him in the food industry.

NATHANIEL DAVID DATZ, passed away in Palm Desert, California, Monday, March 12, 2012 at the age of 95 years. He was born September 6, 1916, the son of Morris and Eva (Sapperstein) Datz.
David served our country with pride and honor in the United States Armed Services, he received his Bachelors Degree and worked 45 years in the food industry 45 years. He was in sales and distribution for Hebrew National.
David was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Reeve and is survived by his loving daughter, Suzanne Datz.
