In 1870 he was elected Mayor of Morrison, and served one year. He was one of the twenty-two members who organized the Presbyterian church of this city at Unionville, March 28, 1855, and was elected at that time as one of two elders of the church, and exercised the functions of the office until failing health prevented. Through all his years in this community he led a quiet, unostentatious and christian life, and has gone to his grave leaving an unsullied name, honored and respected by all.
