    'SHANTZ, SAMUEL, was born January 16th, 1811. On March 28th, 1830, he was married to Susannah Erb who was born November 13th, 1810, and died October 7th, 1844. On March 25th, 1845, he was again married to Rebecca Rudy who was born October 29th, 1825. ... After his first marriage he took charge of his own farm, about three miles west of Berlin, and commenced clearing away the huge forest and erected the necessary buildings thereon. In due time he was possessor of one of the finest farms on the Petersburg Road. Here he resided until his death which took place January 18th, 1895.'
