[edit] About Steve RedmanSteven L. "Steve" Redman was born 29 May 1945 in McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Steve was adopted at an early age and it is not known if he was ever able to find his biological parents. He married Vivian Carol McCullough on 11 February 1964 in Canyon County, Idaho, when they were both 18 years old. [Idaho Marriage License]. They were then living in Redlands, San Bernardino County, California. Steve and Vivian have three grown children together. California Birth Records show they had daughters Sandra C. Redman, born 8 March 1965, Stephani L. Redman, born 28 September 1968. The family later lived in Upland, Rancho Cucamonga and Fontana, California. Steve worked for nearly all of his professional life in the food industry, starting as a "courtesy clerk" [or "boxboy"] with Safeway Supermarkets in Southern California. He did just about every job imaginable at store level, working his way up to Store Manager. Then he decided that the long hours took away from his time with the family, and he decided to make a jump over to the food brokerage side of the industry, after he was approached with an opportunity to join food broker Bromar Southern California. After consolidations in the brokerage industry swept up Bromar with the now defunct Marketing Specialists, Steve joined Ross Billings Thunderbird & Associates, working his way up to Vice President, Marketing of the Perishable Division after Henry Saito announced his retirement. Ross Billings Thunderbird later became Billings-Horn, which was later also acquired by Advantage Sales & Marketing. Steve also had short stints at Coke Foods [Minute Maid] and Heartland Farms during his career. After several successful years at Advantage, Steve got an opportunity to jump over again to the manufacturer side of the food industry and join Lala Foods, a dairy company that was owned by Borden Dairy for several years that produces several hispanic dairy and yogurt products sold in supermarkets across the country. Lala Foods, licensed in the United States by Grupo Lala is also one of the best known dairy brands in Mexico, catering to the hispanic consumer. Steve retired from Lala in October 2014 at age 69. Steve was always a pleasure to work with, had a positive "can-do" attitude and represented his companies and the grocery industry with honesty and integrity. Steve was active for many years in a food industry trade association, the Dairy/Deli/Bakery Council of Southern California (DDBC), which is now known as the Perishable Council of Southern California. Steve was awarded the DDBC's "Big Cheese Award" in November 2005 for his many years of service to the food industry. Steve Redman passed away suddenly on July 7th, 2022 in San Bernardino County, California at age 77. He is survived by his wife Vivian and children. He will be missed by all that knew him.
