- Several internet postings claim that Timothy Downing married Sarah Chenowith. This appears to be is incorrect, several sources cite that Timothy married Mary Chenowith, Sarah's younger sister. Sarah Chenowith married John Scott (1734-1804).

Timothy Downing served in the Military during the French and Indian War.
- 1. Timothy Downing, b. 1744 in Pr. George’s Co, Maryland,[1] d. 1799 in Northwest Territory - now Pike Co, Ohio. He married (1) abt 1766, unknown, he married (2) bef 1770, Mary Chenoweth, b. 23 Jul 1749 in Frederick Co, Virginia (daughter of Thomas Chenoweth and Mary Prickett), she d. after 1791.
- 1768 & 1769 Frederick Co, Maryland Court – Overseer of Road from near James Prather’s to Fort Cumberland.
- 1770 Frederick Co. Court Minute Bk: Timothy Downing appt constable, Cumberland Hundred.
- 1783 Tax Assessment: Washington Co, MD, Cumberland District.
- Timothy and Mary lived on the North Branch of the Potomac near Fort Cumberland - present day Allegany Co, Maryland. They were close to the Chenoweths who lived at Upper Oldtown (Cresaptown). After the Revolutionary War, they moved with Mary’s brothers to Lee Twp, Mason Co, Kentucky (abt. 1786). When the Northwest Territory opened for settlement in 1796, both the Chenoweths and Downings moved to the Scioto Valley, today Pike County, Ohio.
