1900 Census [24 February 2017]

Thank you (cos1776) for finding and adding the 1900 census as a source for this family. It's extended my wife's ancestral line a full generation (plus) on both lines. And now that we have this subject's surname at birth, it should lead to further clues and research success. Since older Hispanic families had such strong matrilineal traditions, I wonder if the Gutiérrez surname could be her mother's maiden name, or whether Balbina married a second time. Provides more research impetus.

BTW, do you have any familial connection to this line, or was it just a serendipitous find? --BobC 13:32, 24 February 2017 (UTC)

I am so glad that the 1900 census addition was helpful. I am not related (wouldn't that be something?). I occasionally need a break from working on the documentation/Help page project, so I do page and title clean ups to fix broken links, etc., mostly in old GEDCOMs, but occasionally something like this pops up. I think I came across this family because of the parents' page title being "Mr. Gutierrez and Unknown". I do see that after entering her parents and siblings, I forgot to circle back to fix her page title. I'll leave that to you.
I would say it is more likely that she married again later (to a Gutierrez). I believe her mother's maiden name is "Garza". There is the marriage record [1] and several Texas death records for their children naming their mother as well. FamilySearch should be a treasure trove for you! It will be fun to see what else you might find. Best Wishes, --cos1776 21:12, 24 February 2017 (UTC)
p.s. I would also like to pay you a compliment on the great job you are doing with the genealogy contest. It really looks nice. I enjoy "playing", but I am trying to stay away to allow some other folks have a turn. Since we are getting close to the end of the month, I might not be able to resist. :)
