NOTE: Kincardine and Abernethy also appear as names for parishes in Perthshire. Care should be taken not to confuse them.

The present parish of Abernethy comprises the pre-Reformation parishes of Abernethy and Kincardine. Parts of the parish were considered to be in Elginshire before 1870.

For a description of the 19th century parish, see the description from The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland (1868) as transcribed and copyrighted by Colin Hinson and provided on the web by GENUKI.
