In April 2019 the unitary authority of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (commonly abbreviated to "BCP") was formed as a merger of the unitary authority of Bournemouth District, the non-metropolitan borough of Christchurch District and the unitary authority of Poole District, which are spread along the English Channel coast at the eastern border of Dorset. Until 1974 all three towns had been municipal or county boroughs in Hampshire. |
