Busby was situated on the edge of three parishes: Newton Mearns, Cathcart in Renfrewshire and East Kilbride in Lanarkshire. It is now a southern residential suburb of Glasgow, but in times passed it had chemical works, cotton mills, a paper mill and bleachfields. The population was more than 1,600 in 2001 (the last census available).
