Cerne Rural District existed in Dorset, England from 1894 until 1933 and was located in the central part of the county. In 1933 the rural district was abolished. The majority of the civil parishes were transferred to Dorchester Rural District with a few going to Sherborne and Sturminster Rural Districts, as given below.

"Rural districts were a type of local government area – now superseded – established at the end of the 19th century in England, Wales, and Ireland for the administration of predominantly rural areas at a level lower than that of the administrative counties."
