Cherokee County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The county was formed in 1897 from parts of York, Union, and Spartanburg Counties. It is included in the Gaffney, South Carolina Micropolitan Statistical Area. In 2000, the county's population was 52,537; in 2005 the U.S. Census Bureau estimated its population to have reached 53,844. The county seat is Gaffney.
