Dirleton is a small village in East Lothian with an active Historical Society. There is a beautiful and historic parish church (17th century) and churchyard whose old parish records survive. The Gullane & Dirleton HS also have published a couple of interesting books about the people and graves attached to the church. (Life and Death in Dirleton Parish; The Stones of Dirleton Kirkyard and their People).

One of the families represented in numbers in the churchyard is the Runciman family line descended from William of Crail (c1720-1765). 17 members of the family over several generations are buried there.
