Elthorne Hundred was a hundred (ancient subdivision) of the historic county of Middlesex, England. It covered the northwest corner of the county and included the following parishes:

  • Cranford, a small parish on the south of the hundred
  • Harlington, a long narrow parish on the south to the west of Cranford
  • West Drayton, a small parish on the west of the hundred
  • Harmondsworth, a parish in the far southwest (It covered most of the fields and former homes of the hamlet of Heathrow (hamlet), now London Heathrow Airport
  • Greenford, a parish on the east of the hundred
  • Northolt, a parish on the east of the hundred, situated between Ruislip and Hayes
  • Perivale, a parish on the east of the hundred, narrowly the bulk and extreme of the small eastern sub-projection.
  • Hanwell, a strip parish east of Norwood.
  • Hayes, in the centre of the hundred. The southeast half of which was Norwood, a precinct from the founding of its 12th century chapel, then a chapelry until its 1859 upgrade to a parish, during the early centuries seeing its Southall manor build up significantly and build its own community.
  • Yeading (redirected to Hayes which developed late to the north of Hayes proper (but outside its precinct). It saw its first mission church in 1890.

  • Hillingdon was a large area, a fairly neat upright rectangle bordered by the River Colne on the west of the hundred. In 1894 it was split into Hillingdon East and Hillingdon West. Hillingdon West immediately merged with Uxbridge as Uxbridge Urban District. Hillingdon East became Uxbridge Rural District.
  • Uxbridge, a chapelry within Hillingdon from before 1248 until it was upgraded to a parish in 1827. It centred on the town of the same name in the west of the hundred.
  • Cowley, a parish completely consisting of enclaves within Hillingdon parish, much of it also with Uxbridge.
  • Yiewsley, a chapelry in the west of the hundred, founded on an old hamlet in 1859, made a parish in 1874.
  • Ickenham, a small parish northeast of Hillingdon and northwest of Hayes
  • Harefield, a parish in the far northwest
  • Ruislip, a parish to the east of Harefield. Parent parish of Eastcote and Northwood.

In 1894 the above civil parishes were grouped into smaller divisions known as urban districts and rural districts. The most densely populated parishes also became municipal boroughs and had some independence in controlling their own affairs. During the period 1926 to 1930 there was a further reorganization in when rural districts were abolished and their parishes amalgamated to the nearest municipal boroughs. At this point the existence of the hundreds disappeared as the mergers between parishes crossed the boundaries between hundreds.

The hundred thus closely corresponded to the present London Borough of Hillingdon, plus the western half of the London Borough of Ealing. The eastern third of Ealing Borough is mainly made up of the villages of Ealing and Acton which lay in Ossulstone Hundred.
