Fair Oak, Hampshire is a large village on the outskirts of Eastleigh, and near Southampton and Winchester. Its parish incorporates the neighbouring village of Horton Heath, which lies to the south.

Fair Oak became a civil parish in 1894 and was declared part of the Winchester Rural District. It was increased in area in 1932 by absorbing 262 acres from Owslebury and 707 acres from Stoke Park parish (which was abolished at that time). It became part of the Eastleigh District in 1974. (Source: A Vision of Britain through Time)

A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Fair Oak from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"FAIROAK, a chapelry in Bishopstoke parish, Hants; 7 miles S of Winchester. It has a post office under Southampton. The living is annexed to Bishopstoke."
