Grindleton (#9 on map) has been, since 1974, a village and civil parish in the Ribble Valley District, in the English county of Lancashire. Its 3700 acres sit within the Forest of Bowland. Historically, Grindleton was a township in the ancient or ecclesiastical parish of Great Mitton in the Staincliffe Wapentake of the West Riding of Yorkshire. From 1894 until 1974, Grindleton was located in Bowland Rural District. In 1938, a geographically non-contiguous area of Low Bowland Forest was transferred to Grindleton.
