A stone and brick dedication to Stanley Hite erected at the edge of the Hite Family Cemetery reads as follows:
- Stanley Hite
- Near here in 1782 lived Stanley Hite who first appeared on the Halifax tax list with five members in his household Stanley lived here the remainder of his life purchasing his first real estate from Frederick Talley in 1786. Over the next 30 years he purchased and sold over 500 acres to his children and neighbors. Stanley and his wife Martha "Patsy" had seven children, Vincent, Hampton, Catherine, Martha, Stanley Jr, Sarah and Nancy. Many of the descendants of these children remain here and in surrounding counties while some ventured to places such as Kentucky, Arkansas and California. Stanley Hite died in Sept. or Oct. 1827 and Martha died in Oct. 1847 leaving a legacy, extended family and a community that would become known as Hitesburg, Virginia.
