A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Llantrissent from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:
- "LLANTRISSENT, a parish in Pontypool [registration] district, Monmouth[shire]; on the river Usk, 3 miles S by E of Usk [railway] station. Post town: Usk, under Newport, Monmouth[shire]. Acres: 2,762. Real property: £2,832. Population: 308. Houses: 59. The property is divided among a few. The living is a vicarage, united with the vicarage of Pertholey, in the diocese of Llandaff. Value: £180. Patron: the Rev.J. E. Wakley. The church is dedicated to Sts. Peter, Paul, and John; and is good.
Llantrissent was located southwest of the town of Usk and east of the parish of Llangibby. Originally it included the chapelries of Betws Bochwdw and Llanhowell or Llanllywel and the township of Tre Saint. Llanhowell or Llanllywel was formed into the parish of Llanllowell immediately to the north of Llantrissent late in the 19th century. In 1935 the name of the civil parish was changed from Llantrissent to Llantrisaint Fawr. (Source: A Vision of Britain through Time and Ordnance Survey Map of Monmouthshire of 1900)
