Pokesdown is a suburb of Bournemouth. The whole area was formerly in Hampshire, but since 1974 it is located in the county of Dorset. It lies just east of the suburb of Boscombe and west of Southbourne.

The area was part of the Liberty of Westover. After a year in Christchurch Rural District it was made an urban district in 1895, but in 1902 it was absorbed into the County Borough of Bournemouth.
