NOTE: Another place named Wheatley is a ward in Doncaster (now in South Yorkshire).

A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Wheatley from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"WHEATLEY, a village in Ovenden township, [West Riding of] Yorkshire; 1½ mile NW of Ovenden village. It has worsted mills, bleaching-works, and dye-houses."

GENUKI states that Wheatley was in the township of Ovenden, and the ecclesiastical parish of Halifax in the Morley division of the wapentake of Agbrigg and Morley. The civil parish of Ovenden was absorbed into Halifax Municipal/County Borough in 1894.
