Acknowledge source? [5 June 2009]

Template seems almost identical to templates on older wikis, such as Genealogy Wikia. Acknowledge source? Robin Patterson 05:47, 23 July 2008 (EDT)

Thanks for reminding me. Nice to have you back :-).--Dallan 14:30, 24 July 2008 (EDT)

Your notice is not compliant with GFDL. The proper thing would be to create a Familypedia-notice with the same text as that for the Wikipedia-notice. You acknowleged Robin. Under terms of GFDL, it is proper to acknowledge all contributors (there were about 7 for this particular template), a link to the history of content you have copied from Familypedia is proper. This principle is reflected in the text you have copied. Perhaps when copying material in the future, it would be wise to consider its content.

Good luck with your web site. -Phlox 12:51, 5 June 2009 (EDT)

I apologize for the mis-attribution. Good luck with Familypedia as well.--Dallan 10:04, 23 June 2009 (EDT)

Category addition [16 October 2022]

Hello. As this page is locked against editing, I cannot do this myself. I would like to see this template added to the Category:Pages that cross-reference Wikipedia. Thanks. --ceyockey 17:07, 16 October 2022 (UTC)

Request addition of a date parameter [16 December 2022]

I think it would be useful to have an optional date parameter added for the date that the content was brought over from Wikipedia. This would help content maintenance. --ceyockey 02:48, 16 December 2022 (UTC)

It would be useful to "add the miles (km)" to a quote fromWikipedia. I recall requesting it four or more years ago and being told it was something in the Wikipedia software that we couldn't break into to fix.

Because it's always been a frustration to me as I worked on descriptions of places in the UK, I decided to write my own introductory sentence "the text in this section is based on an article in Wikipedia"; copy the paragraphs used over to WeRelate; insert all the distances (which always show up as a double space) and make any further changes that I felt were necessary. There is often a short paragraph telling us the village has, perhaps, three pubs, a grocery store and a village hall that burnt down in 1985--not information necessary to someone wanting to know what the village was like in 1900 or before.

I don't know whether this suggestion would suit your purposes. I do so agree that the lack of distances causes our descriptions to look most peculiar sometimes.--Goldenoldie 12:39, 16 December 2022 (UTC)

Hmm - I think we might be speaking about different templates. The "Wp-" type templates that transclude material from Wikipedia are (ahem) quite flawed; for example Template:Wp-Deborah_Sampson. This is in part due to the relatively complex transformation that needs to be done when auto-updating the templates. I'm referring to the simple "YO! this stuff is from wikipedia" template. I've given up on the "Wp-" type and now manually select what I want from the article in Wikipedia to include here. Reason why I wanted to get a Date included is that this could be an indicator of whether the pull was old or recent; and point at the approximate version the content was from. An alternative would be to include the "old-id" parameter from the Wikipedia perma-link, but I think that's a bit much for most people to pull. --ceyockey 01:32, 17 December 2022 (UTC)

Suggest additional category [25 March 2023]

Could this template have a second category added to it ... Category:Pages that cross-reference Wikipedia ? Thanks for considering this. --ceyockey 00:32, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
