later than the s. of him of New Haven. JONAH, Hingham 1635,
came in the Hercules, with w. Constance, from Sandwich, Co. Kent. He
was of Tenterden; and the mayor of that borough, John Austin, perhaps
his f. or near relat. certif. a. tak. the o. in 3 Mass. Hist. Coll. VIII.
274. Perhaps he first sat down at Cambridge, then call. Newtown, and
was not many yrs. at H. being, found at Taunton 1643, and he d. there
30 July 1683. JONAH, Taunton, prob. s. of the preced. m. perhaps
Frances, d. of John Hill of Dorchester, tho. Col. Rec. makes her h. to be
Jonah Allen senr. He d. 10 May 1676, some yrs. bef. his f. and of ch. I
hear only of John, b. 1 July 1671. See Baylies II. 270. JOSEPH,
Hampton 1642, Dover 1648, was of the gr. jury 1651, and d. 1663. His
will of 6 June 1642, directs equal div. of his prop. betw. all his ch. but the
name only of Thomas has reach. us. is d. Mary m. 17 May 1674, Richard
Gardner, jr.
of Nantucket; but she was by sec. w. In 1659 he took sec. w.
Sarah, wid. of William Story, d. of Elder Edward Starbuck; and she had third
h. Humphrey Varney. JOSEPH, Charlestown, s. of Richard the sec. m.
10 Nov. 1692, Elizabeth Pitts; and I kn. no more. exc. by his will of 1736, pro.
18 June 1739, in wh. Elizabeth is nam. beside ch. Joseph, Richard, Abigail, w.
of Samuel Webb, and Elizabeth w. of Eleazer Johnson. LEONARD, New Haven,
br. of John, a weaver, d. 1678 unm. MATTHEW, York 1659, was k. by
the Ind. a. 1704. RICHARD, Charlestown, came in the Bevis, from
Southampton, 1638, with w. and two ch. He was then aged 40, and had
been a tailor at Bishopstoke in Co. Hants. RICHARD, Charlestown, prob.
s. of the preced. brot. by him from long. m. 11 Nov. 1659, Abigail, d.
of William Batchelder, had Samuel, b. 1660; Ebenezer, 27 Aug. 1662;
Abigail, 24 Apr. 1664; Richard, 30 Nov. 1665; Joseph, 21 Feb. 1667;
Benjamin, 24 Jan. 1669; William, 6 Aug. 1671; Elizabeth 6 May 1673;
Rachel, 7, bapt. 28 May 1676; James, 17 June 1673; and John, 10 Dec. 1681.
His w. d. 1 Feb. 1694, aged 56; and he d. 15 Aug. 1703, aged 71. Abigail
m. 11 Sept. 1688, John Kettle jr. Elizabeth m. Jonathan Loring of Boston;
and of sev. of the ch. no acco. is seen, so that, perhaps, some d. young
RICHARD, Charlestown, s. of the preced. m. 27 Nov. 1691, Mehitable, d.
of William Welsteed,and d. 6 Sept. 1694. His wid. Mehitable m. Jan. 1700,
Benjamin Gibson. RICHARD, Suffield, eldest s. of Anthony, m. 18 Jan. 1699,
Dorothy Adams, had Richard, b. 4 Oct. foll.; Dorothy, 26 July 1701; Jacob, 1
June 1704; Ebenezer, 22 Apr. 1706; Ann, 16 Jan. 1709; Joseph, 26 Jan. 1711;
Rebecca, 16 Apr. 1713; Moses, 25 Apr. 1716; and Elias, 14 Apr. 1718. SAMUEL,
Dover 1649, was of Wells, and constable 1655, and rep. 1682. SAMUEL,
Charlestown, s. of Richard the sec. by w. Sarah had Abigail, Sarah, Mary,
Mehitable, Ann, and Samuel, and d. 23 June 1716. THOMAS, Greenwich 1675,
perhaps s. of John the first, rem. to the adj. town of Bedford, there liv.
1686-97. THOMAS, Dover, s. of Joseph of the same, by w. Ann had
Rose, b. 1678; Sarah, 1682; Nathaniel, 1687; Thomas, 1689; Joseph,
1692; Nicholas, and Ann, tw. 1695; Samuel, 1698; and Benjamin, 1704.
WILLIAM, Charlestown, s. of Richard the sec. m. 30 June 1696, Hannah
Trarice, d. prob. of John of the same; but I find no more of him. One
of this surname, whose bapt. name is not seen, would have gone home in
1638, from New Haven, with large prop. but was taken by the Turks,
