13 July 1668; James, 9 Nov. 1670; Sarah, 10 Sept. 1672; Epenetus,
18 Jan. 1675; John; Thomas, 18 May 1686; and Lydia, 20
Jan. 1689. He took o. of alleg. to k. Charles II. in May 1666;
and d. July 1698. EPENETUS, Providence, s. of the preced. m. Mercy
Williams
, had James, Charles, Joseph, Anthony, Mary, Amy, Ann,
Martha, and Freeborn. He had rem. to Gloucester, R. I. and d. 18
Sept. 1740. Perhaps at G. the dates of b. of these ch. or some of them
may be ascertain. JAMES, Providence, br. of the preced. w. alleg.
June 1667; rem. not from P. dur. Philip's war. He d. bef. Feb. 1677,
rob. unm. JAMES, Providence, eldest s. of Epenetus the first, m. 31
Aug. 1702, Hallelujah Brown, had James, b. 18 Sept. 1703, wh. d. soon;
Mary, 30 Sept. 1704; Joseph, 6 June 1706; James, 28 Dec. 1708, d.
in few wks.; Jonathan, 9 Mar. 1710, Jeremiah, 20 Mar. 1711; and
Lydia, 1 Nov. 1716; and he d. 5 or 6 Oct. 1744. JOHN, Providence,
s. of the first Epenetus, m. 11 Aug. 1699, Rachel Coggeshall, had John,
b. 27 May 1701; William, 22 Feb. 1706; Jeremiah, 4 Nov. 1708;
Freelove, 29 Nov. 1711; and Nebediah, 10 Feb. 1715. THOMAS,
Salem, shoemaker, of Hertford, Eng. came in the Planter to Boston,
1635, from London, aged 35; with w. Mary, 30; s. Thomas, 3; and
Epenetus, 1; was freem. 17 May 1637, had Nebadiah, bapt. Aug. foll.
wh. d. young; soon aft. went to Providence, and join. 1638, with Roger
Williams in purch. of Providence, and in found. the first bapt. ch. on our
contin. There he prob. had Stephen, Mary, James, and Lydia; took
the o. of alleg. May 1666, and d. 1682. Of his ds. Mary m. 4 Dec.
1663, John Whipple; and Lydia m. 17 Dec. 1669, Joseph Williams.
Hutch. I. 421, prints the act of excommunica. of him and others for
their fall from the ch. as verified by Hugh Peter; and Felt, Ann. II.
576, rec. the excision of both him and his w. tho. the name of neither
appears among his ch. memb. A s. of his, prob. Stephen, but may have
been Nebadiah, d. early in 1659-60, as a let. of Williams to J. Winthrop in
3 Mass. Hist. Coll. X. 28, tells. He was made Treasr. in 1638, the only
officer wh. is nam. on the rec. and in 1649 an Assist. THOMAS, Providence,
eldest s. of the preced. b. at Hertford, Co. Herts, a. 1632, was
memb. of the Bapt. ch. took the o. of alleg. the same day as his f.; m.
31 July 1660, Elizabeth Marsh of Newport, had Thomas, b. 7 May 1661;
William, 25 June 1663; Elizabeth 31 Jan. 1667; Ann, 13 Jan. 1669; and
Phebe, 1 Sept. 1675. Benedict, Hist. I. 478. He d. 11 June 1722,
his will, of 20 Feb. preced. pro. 9 July foll. ment. s. William, gr.ch.
