1723 Quit Rent Roll found here: http://www.kykinfolk.com/stafford/rentroll3.htm Quit Rent was lawfully demanded of Samuel Jackson for 460 acres. On that same quit rent roll was the notation that "John Peake has the Jackson orphans". Need to learn who these orphans are!! See J. Peake and Samuel Jackson together in 1701 document.

1728/1729 Feb 25 B-184 Philemon Walters owned land in Stafford Co adjoining Samuel Jackson "on a branch of Quantico". (from Virginia Northern Neck Land Grants, 1694-1742. [Vol. I] at ancestry.com; and also from rootsweb chart of Michael Marshall) I believe this same land is later described as being in PWC – PWC not formed until 1731

1730 Apr 10 C-58 John Ashmore of Stafford Co., 510A in Stafford Co on Br of Quantiquo adj Samuel Jackson. Don Wilson said the Ashmore land was directly north of Jackson's land. (Also said Jackson's 1694 land was "south of Independent Hill".)

1731 Prince William formed.

1731 Aug 27 C-10 John Farrow of PWC had 724 acres on the branches of Quantico adjoining the lands of Robert Hedges, Francis Jackson & Samuel Jackson. See 1708 3-191. http://search.ancestry.com/Browse/BookView.aspx?dbid=49389&pageno=114

1739 Fairfax to Lovell Jax 1739

1739 24 Feb Jackson, John to Harrison, Thomas Jr. Deed book D page 327-332

Lease: 24 February 1739 John Jackson of the Parish of Overwharton in the County of Stafford and Thomas Harrison of the Parish of Hamilton in the County of Prince William. For five shillings John leased 234 acres lying in the Parish of Hamilton and the county of PW on the south side of the Quanitco Run said land John Jackson holds as a legatee under last will and for account of his father Samuel Jackson it being part of a parcel of land granted to Samuel Jackson the father of John for 450 acres by deed from the proprietors' office in 1694. Bounded etc etc on the south side of Occoquon Run. Signed John J. Jackson his mark. Witnessed M. Battaloy, Tho's Young, Rob't Boggoss. SO SAMUEL IS DECEASED BY 1739 (but note that another Samuel died February 14, 1747/8.) Pages 327-329 Release: 25 February 1739 same essential verbage except 60 pounds sterling in stead of five shillings. (See Oct 1694 above where Samuel acquired the 450A) So this is actually a sale of the 234 acres. The release indicated John's wife SARAH was examined privately and relinquished her dower right to the property. Hmm.. So John sold 234A of the 450A parcel. Did he keep the remaining 215A or did another son inherit those 215A? This deed has been posted both to ancestry.com and to WR. John (330); Samuel (80)

1740 Mar 26 A Samuel Jackson is listed in the estate settlement of John Farrow as having cash paid in PWC. This cannot be the Samuel who married John Farrow's dau Mary as Mary's husband Samuel wasn't born until abt 1755.

1741 Fairfax County formed from part of Prince William County. I know there are Jacksons in Fairfax but I haven't searched that county.

1741 Jan 16 E-402 Thomas Harrison of PWC, Gent. 221 A in PWC on Quantico Run adj Robert Hedges, Francis Jackson, Philemon Waters, Samuel Jackson's now Harrison's land. serv. by Capt. Joseph Berry. See 1708, 1712 &

Turner Bond Book, Page 59 (C-454) http://www.pwcvabooks.com/documents/BondBook.pdf (no Gibbons found in St. Paul's Register book. Possibly John and Rachel __?__ married in Overwharton Parish??)

1744 Jackson, Sith Was born March 23, 1744 ('Stith' was a surname found in the area in the St. Paul's Parish Register Book so that was prob his name.) A quote from "Overwharton Parish Records, Old Stafford County 1720-1760." Boogher, William H. 1899 (reissued on CD by DMK Heritage 2005) was found here: http://www.kykinfolk.com/stafford/parishregj.htm

1745 Don Wilson tells us the Dettingen Parish was carved out of Hamilton Parish in 1745.

1755 Records of Dettingen Parish, Prince William county, Virginia: Vestry Book by Historic Dumfries Virginia Inc., Page 20, 21 At a Vestry held at Detingin Glbe. Decr. 8th 1755: Among the payments recorded is a record for Samuel Jackson for burying John Butler 300.

1755 - Samuel Jackson (who married Mary Farrow) was born per Michael Marshall's web site. 1756 - Samuel Jackson (who married Vashti Grinnan) was born per Pension Application R5529 Samuel Jackson.

1770 Dec 17 Samuel Jackson posted security bond for marriage of Elizabeth Grinnan (Greening) George Davis in Fauquier County. This is the Samuel who in 1792 buys land with his wife Vashti Grinnan. And the same Samuel who enlists in 1775. (Post-em left on a rootsweb chart by Sadie Sparks.) Here again we have the question of the dates of birth and marriage for Samuel. If he was born in 1756; he couldn't have been security for Elizabeth in 1770. Come back to this later when I've double checked Don Wilson's Oct 2011 email. I think I remember him saying the bond was not from Vashti's Samuel but from an earlier Samuel.

*1771 4 Feb Jane Jackson (RIN 299), James Gwatkins and John Lynn put up bond for Jane Jackson, Administrix of Charles Jackson (RIN110) deceased. (See 1758, 1760, 1770 & 1801 for more relationship of Gwatkins family to Jackson family.)
            http://www.pwcvabooks.com/documents/BondBook.pdf

1771 Aug 11 This citation says Samuel Jackson married Vashti Grinnan on this date. From "Abstracts of Wills, Administrations, and Marriages of Fauquier County, Virginia, 1759-1800", pg 53, by J. Estelle Stewart King, Reprint by Clearfield, Genealogical Publishing Co., Baltimore, MD, 2001 from the original published in Beverly Hillls, California in 1939. Note this marriage recorded in Fauquier. There is also a different Samuel Jackson in Fauquier Co who married Peggy Jackson on 9 Feb 1799 and I am ASSUMING he is from the line of Joseph Jackson of Fauquier.

"In 1777 the revision of the county lines threw St. Paul's Parish into King George County, where it has remained since that date. So for the first three score years the records in the Register are of Stafford county and for the last score of King George county." Source: "St. Paul's Parish Register, Stafford & King George Counties, Virginia, 1715-1798", page iii. Note that no Jacksons are found in this Parish Register after 1777. This register only goes to 1798.

[Chloe's father is John Calvert. John died in 1788 and his Inventory was taken by JAMES GWATKINS, BENJAMIN MATERSON, William Alexander & Scarlet Madden.] [BENJAMIN MATERSON also witnessed Samuel's 1785 will. William Evan Jackson, John's oldest son was born abt 1778 - and Samuel didn't mention in his 1785 will any grandchildren born to John though he mentioned other grandchildren. In fact, grandchild Nancy was old enough to be married.]

  • 1778 Nov 2 DB T pgs 488-489 Francis JACKSON makes a gift deed to 'my son Samuel. . . 242 acres I believe this is the land Samuel (Will 1815) leaves to his wife Mary saying it is land his father gave to him, of land in County of Prince William on a branch of Occoquan River called the Cabin Branch' . . . and follows is the legal description of the land which includes all houses, buildings and tenements and says that Samuel was currently living on the land. Francis' wife Sarah was examined privily and consented to the deed. Sarah signed or made her mark as Sarah C. Jackson. (By 1781 Sarah is not mentioned in Francis' will.) (this deed is #7 on Scott's list but we didn't order it. I found it online here: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=princewmcounty&id=I05779 posted by Pat Wink) NOTE; THE SON SAMUEL SAYS IN HIS 1815 WILL THAT THIS IS THE LAND HIS FATHER (FRANCIS) BOUGHT FROM THE BOYD STONES! I don't think we have deed Boyd Stones to Francis but I've seen it mentioned elsewhere?? BUT see 1715 21 Dec 5-112 242A From Catherine Lady Fairfax to Francis Jackson for same 242 acres. See 1788 & 1766 & 1815.

See 1799 deed wherein Francis Jackson, s/o Francis and Sarah Ridley sells land he has inherited from his mother Sarah Ridley who received it from her father, William Ridley. This deed spells out the relationships. The 1799 deed mentions that his parents (Francis Jackson and Sarah Ridley) are deceased but does not say when they died.

1779 Feb 1 DB T 510-512 Frances Jackson leases to Joshua Carney 90A more or less for 20 years. If there was a release to go with this, we don't have it.

1779 14 October The Magazine of Virginia Genealogy, Vol., 30, No 3, pgs 180, 181 and 182 gives a list of petitioners of Prince William County, County, Virginia. I have culled the names of all Jacksons who signed the petition as of 14, October 1779. Saml Jackson pg 180 son of Francis who died 1781/2 Francis Jackson, Jr. pg 180 could be s/o Samuel 1694 Francis Jackson pg 180 Will 1781/2 Francis Jackson, Younger pg 180 son of Francis who died 1781/2 George Jackson pg 181 s/o Sam 1785 John Jackson pg 181 s/o Sam 1785 Samll Jackson pg 181 wrote his will in 1785 Samll Jackson, Junr pg 181 s/o Sam 1785 There are no Jacksons on page 182. So there were 3 men named Samuel, 3 men named Francis, 1 George and 1 John. Dates are my attempt to tie these names to document dates in this list.
