Next step: Review your GEDCOM [4 March 2019]

You're not done yet!

Now that you have uploaded 19472170-a91fdb.ged into our review program, it is time for you to match your data to ours. Your next step is to review and resolve any potential warnings that your file might be showing and to match place names, source names and families to pages that may already exist in our database.

Notes:

  • You must complete all the steps before your GEDCOM can be considered for import. - We will keep your file in the queue for two months to give you time to finish, and you do not have to finish all at once.
  • If you did not follow the instructions for preparing your data before uploading your file or if your file does not contain at least one date and place for each person with sources, it is likely that your file will be rejected.
  • Volunteers are here to help. Please read the instructions first, but if you get stuck or have any questions, you can leave a message on the page for the GEDCOM review team. One of our volunteers will respond shortly.
  • Once you have completed the review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import on the last screen, one of our volunteer administrators will review the file again and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24-48 hours. Please allow a little extra time around the holidays. When the import is finalized, you will receive a follow up message here on your Talk page.

You will see more instructions once you are in.

New GEDCOM reviewer available [11 December 2020]

Hi

You were waiting for the new GEDCOM reviewer that doesn't require Flash (although I am puzzled, because I don't see a recent GEDCOM you uploaded). At any rate, the new reviewer is available now. When you upload your GEDCOM again, you will get a link (within about 30 minutes) to the new reviewer. I would caution, though, that WeRelate is not designed for use on a phone - you can use it, but you will be doing a lot of scrolling to be able to see everything. I would suggest at least a good-size tablet if not a laptop or desktop computer.

Let me know if you have any issues.--DataAnalyst 15:33, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

About your Gedcom "Ready to import" problem [12 January 2021]

Hi, Mars. I saw your message on "WeRelate talk:Review GEDCOM [1]", and am sorry you are having this problem. The software for importing changed recently, and there could be a bug in it, or perhaps it's something we're not fully familiar with yet. Please have patience; we will work to look into this and get things straightened out so that your family data can be imported.

So first I'd like to know if you have again reopened the review program for your GEDCOM and seen if the "Ready" button has now been enabled so that you can use it.

You can reply right here (I'll be watching this page) --robert.shaw 10:06, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

I put my comments on another page before I saw this,. Hope you received it.--Mars 15:02, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

Robert, I just checked again and Ready to Import is still grayed out.--Mars 15:05, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

Mars, I have made one set of changes in the data which conceivably might be a/the problem: I excluded 16 Families which have a living spouse. In the normal course of events, after you had successfully pushed "Ready for import" the admin who would do the review would have excluded these 16 families anyway, as the policies say not to allow import of such familes with a living partner. It could be that the new software is now greying out "Ready" because of such families.

Please go into the Gedcom program and see if "Ready" is now available.

Let me also ask a couple of questions. I believe you have been using the "Edit" feature during your use of the Gedcom review program; is that right? If so, have you made many such edits or just a very few?

Another thing: would you be willing to email me a copy of your Gedcom file to help with the troubleshooting? (Although we admins can see the state of your modified gedcom, we can't ourselves get a copy of it or of the original uploaded file for testing purposes.)

Thanks, --robert.shaw 20:29, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

One possibility perhaps, is you need to click on each warning before importing, even if you know that the warning is spurious. If the "Overview" page says you have unread warnings or if some of the warnings are still showing in bold, click on them and then you should be able to click on "Ready to import". If that doesn't work, let us know and I or one of the other admins will import it for you.

The reason I'd like you to try doing this yourself is because as DataAnalyst says, we've recently rewritten the gedcom review program and I'd like to make sure we don't have a bug...--Dallan 16:50, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Mars, I've just sent an e-mail which you can reply with the Gedcom file. Also, Dallan's suggestion of clicking all the "Warning" section lines is good; try it and see if the "Ready" button is no longer grey. --robert.shaw 19:13, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

It is Mars again. Just went back in to follow the instructions from Dallan to click on the Warnings that were bold and then try to import. I think it worked. Although I didn't get any confirmations, the Ready to Import was not gray anymore, so when I clicked on it, I assume it went through. I will be curious to see if I did the edits correctly when the GEDCOM is reviewed. Thanks again.--Mars 21:38, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Correcting mother [20 July 2021]

Hi

This is in answer to the question you just posted.

I assume that what you mean is that a man had 2 wives and children by each, but currently, all the children are showing as being from one wife. To fix this:

  • First make sure that there is a family page for the man and his other wife. One way to do this (if the page doesn't already exist) is to edit the man's page and select "add spouse and children". The remaining steps should be fairly clear, but if you need help, let me know.
  • Then edit each child and remove the current "Parents and siblings family". This will give you the option to "Add parents". Do this and select the family page that reflects the correct mother.

If you need more help, please let me know which family you are working with. It will probably be easier to explain with actual data.--DataAnalyst 14:23, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

Pages without dates [28 October 2021]

Hi, Marlene

In an attempt to get rid of pages for living people, I'm also reviewing isolated pages and small trees with no dates. You created the pages below and there is no indication of when these people lived. Please add dates, even if only approximate. If some of these people were born in the last 110 years and you don't have a death date for them, they will have to be deleted - you can do that yourself.

Pages where no dates can be determined or where the person is considered to be living by WeRelate policy will be deleted in about a month. Let me know if you need more time. Thanks --DataAnalyst 17:00, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
