WeRelate talk:Suggestions/Update Help:RSS page

I can't find a way to subscribe to an RSS feed on the latest versions of Chrome or Firefox. Does anyone use RSS feeds any more? Should we remove the Help:RSS page?--Dallan 03:54, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

  • It's a good question - whether people actually use RSS feeds now or not. Not sure what the best alternative would be to them other than email updates. I was looking around for RSS feed readers the other day when I found a couple of blogs that I wanted to follow, but didn't settle on one in particular. --ceyockey 14:58, 19 March 2023 (UTC)
  • Now that I look more closely - the "RSS" and "Atom" links are not available at the bottom of History pages as advertised, at least not in Firefox -- so maybe they only show up in browsers that support in-app feed aggregation? According to Mozilla documentation, feeds were enabled as "live bookmarks" but this feature was discontinued some time ago, so people need to use a feed reader or another browser. --ceyockey 15:13, 19 March 2023 (UTC)
  • Getting a little more familiar with RSS readers now ... I found that if you have a browser extension or feed sniffer, you'll need to go to the history of a page and look for feeds, which will then reveal the feeds that can be subscribed to; this is the selection method rather than seeing links on the page itself. --ceyockey 15:30, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for looking into it. Would you mind updating the Help page with the information you found? Suggesting people install a browser extension and then navigating to a history page seems like the best approach now that browsers don't support RSS natively.--Dallan 17:27, 25 March 2023 (UTC)

  • OK - I'll update it in the next couple of days. Regards --ceyockey 19:55, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
