Respectfully referring to the chief of Record and Pension Office, War Dept, former reports in the matter of service and treatment of Jacob Varner, and requesting a new copy of the report of January 27, 1881, which is mutilated, and additional reports, if any, as to service and treatment.
As it appears that there were two soldiers in Co. I. 16" Ind. Vol. Inf., bearing the name of Varner, please furnish descrip. of each, with tracing of signatures.

on detached duty as provost Guard Columbus Miss.
Personal Description as follows: Age 25; 5ft 8-1/2; blue eyes, dark hair,
light complexion, born North Carolina, Laborer.
