Facts and Events
[edit] About Creighton Wiggins, Jr.Creighton Ackley Wiggins, Jr. was born 27 December 1934 in Los Angeles County, California, the son of Creighton A. Wiggins, Sr. (b. abt. 1910) and his wife Beatrice Adella Richmond (b. 1915). He was listed in the 1940 U.S. Census at age 5 with his parents in Long Beach, California. Creighton worked most of his professional life in the food industry in Southern California and became one of the kay individuals on the food brokerage side of the business. In 1972, he co-founded Galaxy Food Brokers with fellow food industry veteran Roberto "Bob" Garcia (1935-2000). Galaxy would grow into one of the premier perishables brokerage companies with more than 20 principals with products that were sold at supermarkets throughout the Southern California market, with sales of over $300 million annually. Galaxy was eventually sold to Bradshaw, Inc. in 1990, and became its perishables division. (Bradshaw has since merged into Crossmark Sales & Marketing, Inc.).During his food industry career, Creighton became a member in a local food industry trade association, [then called] the Deli Council of Southern California, which later was re-named to the "Dairy/Deli/Bakery Council of Southern California" (or "DDBC"). Creighton was recognized for his early contributions to the Council by being awarded the "Big Cheese" in November 1973. Creighton continued his participation and support of the Deli Council for several years, and for that support was again recognized and selected as the Council's "Supplier of the Year" in 1990. Creighton later retired from the industry and passed away on January 8, 2010 in Huntington Beach, California. He was remembered by his friends in the food industry as a visionary leader and gentleman. Image Gallery
